In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, standards are issued by an official organization called SASO. The name of this organization when it was first established was the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization. The abbreviation SASO comes from this English definition. The organization was later renamed the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization. However, the SASO abbreviation remains the same.
Today, the SASO Certificate is a required document in the customs of Saudi Arabia for the products to be sent to Saudi Arabia from our country and from all over the world and is obliged by SASO.
SASO Certificate, in a sense, is an export conformity certificate (CoC, Certificate of Conformity). These conformity certificates issued by accredited bodies are an approved document that the products meet the required specifications.
Conformity assessment studies include a series of processes that demonstrate that products meet the requirements of a particular standard. With this application, companies give confidence to consumers while creating competitive advantage for themselves. At the same time, it meets the official supervision of health, safety and environmental conditions.
Insecure and poor quality products entering the country may harm people's health and property. Therefore, in many countries, strict practices are introduced in order to protect consumers from non-standard products. For years, companies around the world have wanted to obtain an international certificate of conformity (CoC) for products that will enter the country and ensure that these products comply with the country's legal regulations and standards.
Advanced laboratories have access to worldwide laboratory networks that support product compliance programs for a wide range of products. In this way, it can issue certificates of conformity to companies located anywhere in the world.
In Saudi Arabia, a product compliance program is in place for products to be shipped to the country. These products require a certificate of conformity (CoC) called SASO CoC to complete customs clearance. Through this program, Saudi Arabia protects the health of its citizens, ensures the safety of consumers and at the same time protects its national security. Likewise, religious and moral values are respected, people are deceived, and environmental concerns are largely eliminated.
Each product to be exported to Saudi Arabia must have a SASO certificate from an accredited inspection body. This document is important to ensure that the products are cleared and that the products are in compliance with the relevant regulatory and relevant standards.
Within this framework, Saudi customs have recently issued a decree for new vehicles to be sent to the country. Accordingly, vehicles that are not covered by the certificate of conformity (CoC) will be held for further inspection at customs, and firms sending these vehicles will be responsible for additional inspection and storage costs for the vehicle. Naturally, there will be significant delays in customs procedures.
Similarly, SASO issued a circular on the energy efficiency requirements of certain types of electric motors. Since 2017, certain types of electric motors exported to Saudi Arabia must be of the lowest IE3 energy efficiency class.
Again, the conformity certificates (CoC) to be issued by SASO for off-road vehicles to be sent to Saudi Arabia have to comply with the newly published SASO EN 15997 standard in order to ensure product safety.
All these new practices aim to protect people's safety and the protection of the natural environment.
