Two different philosophies constitute the subject for the approval of forest areas. As a matter of fact, while focusing on the ISO network approach, FSC performance approach. In this sense, the FSC has established standards that can be implemented on an international scale. This unit can take the form of a single forest or a group of more than one forest owner. On the other hand, forest certification today focuses heavily on certification of wood products. The products offered by a healthy forest resource are not limited to wood products. Other than wood products, marketable forest products are also produced in the forest resource part and are widely used. For example, many forest products in the form of herbaceous and bushes, which are applied in the fields of medicine and pharmacy, are widely covered by trade. Non-wood forest products certification is very new and has generally not been tried. Therefore, most of the certification principles and stages for non-wood forest products are still under development.
The FSC certificate is issued to firms as a result of audits carried out by independent certification bodies, which are accredited by FSC, in accordance with the relevant FSC standard in order to show that a CoC (protection and surveillance chain) management system is applied in a company producing, processing, distributing or transforming forest products. Individuals and institutions that want to contribute to the protection of nature should prefer FSC certified products when purchasing these products. The FSC itself does not conduct this audit to companies and maintains its independence between the standards and requirements it sets.
