What is IFS

IFS international food certification is the most important body of company assessment food safety cooperation, which provides product flow in industry and trade. Increasingly heavier consumer demands, rising threats of claims and also the globalization of product flows made it necessary to advance a uniform quality assurance standard. At the base of these developments, FCD (French Retailers Association) and HDE (German Retailers Association), as well as some companies that are members of the Italian Retailers Associations, have advanced the international Food Standard IFS, which is the food safety and quality standard for trademarks.

IFS international food certification serves the equal analysis of the quality levels of producers and food safety. It is applied for all production processes that monitor agricultural production and in which food is processed.

Traders from Poland, Austria, Switzerland and Spain support IFS and implement it as a food safety standard.

 

Food wholesalers and retailers enable their suppliers of their private label products to be inspected by independent auditors for food safety. In 2002, food retailers in Germany developed IFS (International Food Standard) to establish a common inspection standard. In 2003, IFS version 4 was developed after French food retailers joined the research group. In 2007, the IFS research group created the 5th version of the IFS standard, and the standard became official on 01.08.2007. In the version researches, the member companies of some Italian Retailers representatives also entered into this formation and formed the 5rd IFS representative here. Thus, it was ensured that private label foods were on the same basis with national food laws and the European Union, and the quality needs of European Retailers would be fulfilled.

It can be used for all production processes that monitor agricultural production and process food. It is the primary food packer and includes food producers. Not applicable to importers and those who only ship, store and distribute.

First of all, IFS certification gives European Retailers access to market products. This certificate shows that the institution produces food products in accordance with the European Union rules and the quality needs of the retailers. IFS is an accepted standard by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative), such as SQF, Dutch HACCP and BRC. Some companies have reported that they will adopt all GFSI standards. Secondly, the IFS certificate saves money and time as it is seen sufficient in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Austria, Spain and other market areas.
