Storage Tank Periodic Inspection

Storage tanks are usually produced for the purpose of storing liquids. It is mostly used in oil industry. Companies that produce storage tanks take international standards into account in their design and production. In general, petroleum derivatives substances or chemicals used in the petroleum industry are stored and therefore pose a danger. The most common standards are API 650 and API 620 standards published by the American Petroleum Institute.

The storage tanks used in industrial areas store tons of material by weight. Storage tanks, which are generally used in the oil industry, are also used in the food industry.

There are risks especially in storage tanks used for the storage of hazardous materials. Accidents due to these risks may result in loss of life and environmental pollution. For this reason, have your storage tanks checked by accredited organizations. Periodical inspections of storage tanks Provided that the relevant standard is foreseen, the control period of tanks and tanks containing dangerous liquids is 10 years.

The controls of the storage tanks subject to the Health and Safety Requirements Regulation in the Use of Work Equipment are performed in accordance with the criteria specified in API 620, API 650, API 653, API 2610 standards.

API 650 standard specifies minimum requirements for material, design, production, installation and testing of liquid storage tanks, which are produced in various sizes and capacities as vertical, cylindrical, welded, closed and open ceilings and which store petroleum products such as diesel. Designed and manufactured according to API 650 standard, the working pressure of the tanks is the same as the atmospheric pressure.

API 620 standard includes the design and production of large, welded, low pressure carbon steel storage tanks with a single vertical axis.

Classification is the most important point in proper storage. A classification to be made in the form of flammable substances, abrasives, oxidizing agents, explosive substances and compressed gases is the most eastern. This classification should be made taking into account the properties of the chemicals to be stored.

For example, stored compressed gases contain a large amount of energy and have high flammability potential. As a result of impact or fall, the energy in the storage tank can spread rapidly and suddenly released energy can have an explosion effect.

Explosives are chemical substances that react under sudden pressure changes and high temperature effects. In some conditions they may explode violently.

Due to the risks it carries, it is necessary to inspect and inspect the storage tanks at regular intervals. This legal obligation is in accordance with the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment published in 2013. Inspection and inspection of the storage tanks belonging to the pressure vessels and installations group is required at least once a year. These checks must be carried out by mechanical engineers, high technicians and machine technicians.

Türcert, Inspection, expert team and equipment carried out with the storage tank checks identified as a result of deficiencies, nonconformities or dangerous situations by reporting to you by providing you with the help of the prevention of a possible dangerous event and legal requirements to help you.
