Crane Inspection

Characteristics of Cranes

Generally it is a load carrying machine made of steel which enables the transportation of heavy loads horizontally and vertically on a fixed or movable generally fixed carrier on the construction sites. They can stand at a fixed height or rise with it as the building rises. They are fixed to the structure by means of connection elements which are discharged at regular intervals. When the tower crane is wanted to be raised, this process is realized by adding the modular tower elements to the structure with the climbing cage on the body. A single tower crane is sometimes sufficient in large construction projects or in a particular construction project. Turcert, most of the accidents in tower cranes are due to the inadequate preparation of the ground infrastructure. In addition, the limit and moment switches to fulfill their duties, operator training, compliance with the instructions for use, periodic maintenance are important issues. In history, cranes were used by the Romans in the tenth years of BC. As can be seen from the drawings reached today, these early crane designs show a pulley on top of the mast. A rope passing through the pulley is connected to the loads and the load is raised to the air with the help of a foot mill surrounded by slaves. The first cranes working with the pulley were seen in Italy in the fifteenth century. When the nineteenth century came into existence, this time the cranes operating with steam power emerged. Cranes are powerful machines that are among the lifting and conveying equipment today. They tried to lift loads and transfer them from one place to another. Today, it has a wide variety of species depending on its usage areas, dimensions and working systems.

Cranes, which create great opportunities for businesses in construction sites, large business factories and shipyards, are a machine consisting of pulleys and ropes mounted on a long arm to lift a heavy load. Depending on the load to be lifted by the crane, the length of the arm and the number of pulleys on which the ropes are wound may vary. Some cranes have the ability to lift a heavy load as well as move it in a vertical or horizontal plane. Cranes provide these movements with the help of motors located on them. Workshop type cranes working with arm power have less lifting capacity. However, when it comes to lifting a weight and moving it somewhere, there are always dangerous dimensions of the work. Cranes must be kept under regular control in order to avoid any accidents. However, it was met for unexpected reasons, mostly due to the use of cranes by unqualified or untrained people or their misuse and faulty use, and sometimes the neglect of regular maintenance.

Control and Inspection Principles of Cranes

In accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on Health and Safety in the Use of Work Equipment, employers are obliged to take into account the specific working conditions and health and safety hazards in the workplace and to ensure that these machines and equipment do not cause any damage during use. However, if employers still cannot ensure that the health and safety of employees is completely safe, then they must at least take the necessary measures to reduce the risks to an acceptable level.

our organization TÜRCERT Technical Control and Certification Inc.conducts regular checks of cranes located between the lifting and conveying equipment of the enterprises and reports the detected errors and dangerous situations to the operation. Regular inspection of the cranes ensures timely precautions for risks that might endanger or damage the safety of workers and the enterprise.

The aforementioned regulation includes the criteria to be considered during the control periods and controls and the relevant standards according to the types and characteristics of the cranes used in the operation.

The standards considered during the inspection of cranes are:

  • TS 10116 Lifting and conveying machines - Cranes - Inspection and test methods
  • Steel wire ropes - Safety - Section 12385: Operation and maintenance information
  • TS EN 13157 + A1 Cranes - Safety - Manually operated lifting gear
  • TS ISO 4309 Cranes - Wire ropes - Application rules for inspection and decommissioning
  • TS ISO 12480-1 Cranes - Safe use - Section 1: General

Our company TÜRCERT Technical Control and Certification Inc., a competent manager and employee staff and has a strong infrastructure. It provides high quality, reliable and fast inspection services of cranes of any size and capacity.

Crane Periodic Inspection and Inspection

Cranes which are used in loading, unloading and transportation works in order to comply with the working areas of the enterprises and their operating forms are the machines operating under heavy load in the group of lifting and transmitting machines. Giant cranes, which are stationary on a platform and are generally used in factories, ports, construction sites and very large enterprises, are machines consisting of pulleys and ropes moving on a long arm to lift heavy loads high. Depending on the characteristics of the load to be lifted by the crane, the length of the arm and the number of rollers fall into the areas of change. Again, depending on the area and activity characteristics, some cranes have the ability to displace heavy loads in vertical or horizontal plane. There are also mobile cranes that operate with arm strength and have lower lifting capacity.

Since they carry heavy loads, they pose a great danger in terms of human health and property safety. To prevent this, it will be possible to keep it under control. However, various accidents are caused due to the use by unqualified persons, misuse and misuse or failure to maintain regular maintenance.

The Regulation on Health and Safety Conditions in the Use of Work Equipment issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security obliges regular safety checks and inspections of cranes. The aim is to prevent occupational accidents, to increase production efficiency in the enterprise, to prevent damage to environmental conditions and more importantly to create a safe working environment. In the event of an accident, the first point to be taken under the Occupational Health and Safety Law is whether or not regular checks are carried out.

Our company conducts periodic inspections and inspections of cranes within the scope of periodic controls of lifting and conveying machines in compliance with current legal regulations and standards published by domestic and foreign organizations. These standards are based on a few standards:

  • TS 10116 Lifting and conveying machines - Cranes - Inspection and test methods
  • Steel wire ropes - Safety - Section 12385: Operation and maintenance information
  • TS EN 13157 + A1 Cranes - Safety - Manually operated lifting gear
  • TS ISO 4309 Cranes - Wire ropes - Application rules for inspection and decommissioning

Certification

The firm, which provides auditing, supervision and certification services to internationally recognized standards, also provides periodic inspection, testing and control services.
