Occupational Health and Safety Consciousness

Danger in workplaces is the condition that causes injury, injury, sickness or damage to materials and goods, in short, the workplace environment is damaged in various ways. These dangers can be flames or explosives, or electricity. Risk is the situation where one of these dangers occurs and the consequences are addressed together. For example, a fire that is left unresponsive creates a fire risk. Explosive substances which are not transported or protected in appropriate ways create a risk of explosion. Or, if not properly isolated, grounded or uncontrolled, the risk of fire, fire or fire is created.

The factors and conditions that affect the health and safety of employees, temporary workers, supplier employees, visitors and other people in the working area are handled within the scope of occupational health and safety.

The World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labor Organization (ILO), defines the issue of occupational health and safety for all types of occupations as follows:

  • Keeping and maintaining the spiritual, physical and social well-being of employees at the highest level
  • Prevent employees from losing their health due to conditions of their work environment
  • Protect employees from the hazards of the working environment
  • To organize and maintain working environments in accordance with the mental and physical conditions of the employees

In short, occupational health and safety means ensuring that the work is done to the employees and the employees in accordance with the conditions of the work. As such, there are many parties in the company responsible for or affected by occupational health and safety performance. These are employees, suppliers, contractors, subcontractors, business management, workers 'and employers' unions, customers, visitors and governmental authorities. Awareness of occupational health and safety must be established on all sides. The way of life of people and societies and their perspective on events are effective in the establishment of this consciousness.

The Regulation on Occupational Health and Safety Services published in 2012 covers workplaces covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Law. According to the regulation, employers are responsible for the following activities:

  • Identifying, implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety measures to be taken at workplaces
  • Trying to prevent occupational accidents and diseases
  • Providing first aid and emergency treatment services to employees

In order to carry out these studies, employers must appoint one or more occupational safety specialists and occupational physicians who carry the appropriate conditions from the employees.

Employees are also responsible for notifying the employer of the hazards affecting their health and safety for various reasons and requesting the necessary measures.

What are Electrical Resistance Tests?

Today, there is no activity area where electricity is not used in workplaces. However, although electricity is so important, it is also life-threatening and risk-prone.

Occupational accidents are mostly caused by electrical equipment. The subject of electricity is the most important topic in the risk assessment works of enterprises.

The reasons of the problems caused by electrical problems in the workplaces, the defects of insulating, short circuit, line contact, body contact, ground contact, leakage current, fault current, non-expert persons' interventions and various external factors constitute. Therefore, it is important to perform electrical tests on time in order not to create a hazard in the workplace. These tests carried out by accredited testing and inspection bodies include electrical resistance tests. Electrical resistance tests include leakage current, heating, protection against access to live voltage sections, input power and current, unusual operation, moisture resistance, grounding, insulation, protection against surface leakage and discharge.

Accredited testing and inspection bodies comply with the legal regulations in force while carrying out their electrical strength tests while taking into account the standards issued by the domestic and foreign bodies to which these regulations are referred. In addition, these testing and inspection bodies use both state-of-the-art testing and measurement devices to ensure that the tests are fast, reliable and high-quality, and have trained and experienced engineers in their positions.

The most commonly used standards for testing are:

  • Electrical resistance of insulating materials - Test methods - Section 5119: Tests at mains frequencies
  • Section 60243: Additional rules for experiments using DC voltage
  • TS EN 60243-3 ... Section 3: Additional rules on 1,2 / 50 Xs pulse voltage
  • TS EN 60335-1 Safety rules - For household and similar electrical appliances - Section 1: General rules
  • TS EN 60598-1 Lighting fixtures - Part 1: General rules and tests
  • TS EN 60950-1 Information technology equipment - Safety - Part 1: General rules
  • TS EN 61010-1 Safety rules for measurement, control and electrical equipment used in the laboratory - Part 1: General rules
  • TS EN 60204-1 Safety in machines - Electrical equipment of machines - Part 1: General rules
  • TS EN 60601-1 Electrical and medical equipment - Part 1: General requirements for basic safety and performance

If the reasons of the fires caused by the electricity are considered, these are mainly due to inadequate installation, changes in installation, use of flammable materials, use of flammable and explosive materials, grounding faults and isolation errors. The first way to protect against such accidents is to carry out electrical resistance tests. However, despite the tests, some misconduct of the employees cause danger. Some of these are careless behavior, forgetfulness, absurd approaches such as dreadfulness, intimidation and demonstration efforts, inadequacy of working environment such as humidity, inadequate light, vibration and noise, occupational jokes and incompetence of the work and the employee's abilities.
