NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide) Measurements

Nitrogen dioxide is a red colored, toxic chemical compound. The smell of this gas with a very sharp smell is similar to some chlorine gas. Inhalation causes severe coughing. It is decomposed at 200 degrees and emits nitrogen oxide (nitrogen monoxide) and oxygen gases. Nitrogen dioxide is a water-soluble compound.

The nitrogen oxide compound is a chemical compound of the formula NO. compounds in neutral oxide class. Neutral oxides are of 3. These are NO, NO2 and CO are compounds. The NO compound is formed by the combination of two nonmetals, Nitrogen (N) and Oxygen (O). It is covalently bonded because it is a compound formed between ametals.

Since NO has a nonmetal oxide, it can also be called nitrogen monoxide. With the same logic NO2 nitrogen dioxide.

It is the simplest of nitrogen oxide oxides. Apart from the NO2 compound, there are many compounds formed by two elements.

Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) occurs by combustion of fossil fuels such as gas, coal and oil. For this reason, a large amount of nitrogen dioxide is released into the atmosphere, especially in the exhaust gases of motor vehicles and the combustion of gas and coal used for heating. In the paper sector, a small amount of nitrogen dioxide is formed at some stages of paper production. Nitrogen monoxide (nitrogen oxide) and nitrogen dioxide are very effective in terms of air pollution. These compounds show toxicity to human health and abrasive effect on materials. Nitrogen oxides and nitrogen dioxide measurements carried out by authorized laboratories are therefore of great importance.

It is not easy to detect nitrogen dioxide at low concentrations. However, this gas is highly toxic and if inhaled symptoms such as dizziness and headache occur in humans.

Our company performs nitrogen dioxide (NO2) measurements within the scope of gas measurements. These studies comply with the relevant legal regulations, standards and test methods published by local and foreign institutions. Here are a few standards that are based on these studies:

  • TS EN 16339 Ambient air quality - Method of determination of nitrogen dioxide concentration by chemical diffusive sampling
  • Ambient air quality - Standard measurement method for chemical chemiluminescence determination of nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen monoxide concentrations
  • TS ISO 8761 Workplace air - Determination of nitrogen dioxide mass concentration - Detector tubes method used for short-term sampling with direct indication
  • TS ISO 6768 Ambient air - Determination of the mass concentration of nitrogen dioxide - Improved Griess-Saltzman method
  • TS EN ISO 16000-15 Indoor Air - Part 15: Sampling Strategy for Nitrogen Dioxide
