It is a complex discipline that includes different technical expertise such as fire protection, active protection, passive protection, smoke poisoning and optical density, not only related to the construction of buildings but also for the production of ships, automobiles, railways and aircraft. In general, passive protection works aim at limiting the properties of buildings that cause fire and increase fire. For this purpose, the verification of the studies is done with fire reaction tests. Active protection, on the other hand, generally relates to devices such as fire extinguishers, fire hydrants and smoke evacuation systems, which should be available in an enterprise. As such, fire resistance and reaction tests are related to all products and materials designed and applied.
Pursuant to the Regulation on Fire Protection of Buildings issued by the Ministry of Interior, doors, windows, partition walls, ceilings, columns, floors, etc., which are located in public buildings. It is stated that the fire resistance conditions and times of the basic elements found in buildings and structures should meet the requirements specified in international standards.
Pursuant to the relevant Regulation, the fire resistance and performance of a product must be tested only in a neutral, independent and specific accredited fire laboratory determined according to the relevant European and Turkish Standards and these test result values must be proved by expert technical personnel.
The tests performed here refer only to the current performance values of the product. However, in order to declare whether the products to be offered to the market are fire resistant or not, they must be certified by a certification body that has been approved by the European Commission and has accreditation.
