Parquet, Tile and Tile Tests

In the building materials sector, parquet is one of the most widely used coating types in floor coverings. Hardwoods, which were first obtained from wood, are among the most preferred building materials because they are natural. However, due to the increasing shrinkage of forest areas and a number of environmentalist approaches and economic reasons, today, instead of the traditional solid wood parquet production, artificial parquet varieties called laminate parquet and laminated parquet are produced. With only one tree in the cross-section of the material, these traditional parquets are usually made from hard wood such as oak, ash, hornbeam or rosewood. Quality and well-dried wood is cut into thin layers of various thicknesses. In general, the life of the solid parquet is in parallel with the life of the applied structure.

Laminate flooring coatings are obtained by impregnating resin on paper printed in different colors and patterns. The appearance of this covering material is an artificial material in the form of a tree and evokes the tree in appearance. This coating material is bonded on MDF and similar boards which are more economical than qualified wood and laminate flooring is obtained. Laminated parquets are obtained by gluing the wood materials in several layers and making a thin coating of high quality wood on top of them. It is a quality, long lasting and decorative material.

Parquet tests are carried out in the authorized laboratories considering the standards published by domestic and foreign organizations. Here are a few standards that are based on these tests:

  • TS EN 1910 Wood and parquet flooring and interior and exterior wood veneers - Determination of dimensional stability
  • TS EN 1534 Wood and parquet flooring - Determination of resistance to brinell - Test method
  • TS EN 13227 Wood flooring - Solid laminate flooring products
  • TS EN 13647 Wood and parquet flooring and interior and exterior wood coatings - Determination of geometric properties

Another material of the building is tile stones. It is a building material obtained from hard materials such as tile stone, natural stone, ceramic, metal or glass. Mainly used in floor coverings and walls. In addition to their functionality, tile stones add a distinct aesthetic to the structure visually.

The following are some of the standards that have been taken into account in tile testing in authorized laboratories:

  • TS EN ISO 24342 Elastic floor coverings - Determination of edge length, steepness and linearity of floor tiles
  • TS EN 14411 Ceramic tiles - Definitions, classification, specifications, conformity assessment and marking
  • TS EN ISO 10545-4 Ceramic tiles - Part 4: Determination of the breaking and breaking strength module

It may also be known as tile, ceramic or porcelain tile. It is obtained by mixing, pressing, shaping and firing certain amounts of metals such as clay, kaolin, quartz or limestone. Today it is the most widely used building material in wall and floor coverings.

The following are some of the standards considered in the testing of tiles in authorized laboratories:

  • TS EN 14411 Ceramic tiles - Definitions, classification, specifications, conformity assessment and marking
  • TS EN 15285 Agglomerated stones - Modular tiles for floor and stair covering (internal and external)
