CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Measurements

Thanks to its versatile properties, carbon dioxide is rich and widely used in many industries. Since it increases both product quality and process efficiency, it adds an additional value to the product. Carbon dioxide is present and obtained as a result of underground sources. TOSAŞ naturally markets underground carbon dioxide gas. Carbon dioxide is also recovered from the flue gas in the ammonia production facilities, producing carbon dioxide. It also produces carbon dioxide as a by-product in industrial ethanol fermentation plants, oil refineries, hydrogen reformer units and various petrochemical plants.

Carbon dioxide is colorless in gaseous form and 1.5 is heavier than air. odorless gas at low concentrations. At higher concentrations, it has a pungent, acidic odor. It is present in approximately 0,035% of the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, which is in solid form at ambient pressure but at very low temperatures, has the appearance of veya DRY ICE,, snow or ice. Dry ice is a non-toxic, non-combustible, inert, taste and odor-free substance. Dry ice skips directly from the solid state into a gaseous state, leaving no residue after evaporation.

Greenhouse gas emissions are the only responsible for global warming and global climate change. Due to the use of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas, carbon and carbon dioxide emissions are becoming more and more dangerous in greenhouse gas emissions in almost every part of the world. While the average carbon dioxide concentration in 1958 is 315 ppm, this figure is higher than 2013 ppm in 400.

In addition to land, sea and air vehicles, satellites sent to space, thermal power plants, heavy industrial plants such as iron, steel and cement, forest fires and volcanic eruptions have contributed to this increase in carbon dioxide concentrations.

Main Uses of Carbon Dioxide:

Naturally obtained carbon dioxide gas is used in medicine.

In gas production, carbon dioxide is used in carbonization stage due to its solubility in liquids during the production of carbonated beverages such as soft drinks, mineral soda and beer. Carbon dioxide has the ability to limit or completely stop the growth of microbes damaging the beverage. The most important factor in stopping the growth of bacteria is the amount of dissolved carbon dioxide in the product. The higher this amount, the higher the durability of the products. In addition, it provides long-term preservation of drinks' taste and extends their shelf-life.

In the food sector, carbon dioxide is used to freeze expensive, delicate and pre-prepared food products such as red and white meat, ready meals, pastries, fish, shellfish, mushrooms, strawberry raspberries and ice cream.

In contrast to conventional cooling methods, since the water loss in the product is minimized in carbon dioxide cooling, the weight loss after dissolution is reduced. The product retains its freshness. Therefore, it is an economically profitable and effective cooling method.

Dry ice can provide storage temperatures between + 10 degrees and -25 degrees. Its applicability, low availability of investment and high cooling capacity make carbon dioxide indispensable for the food industry.

Efforts are being made to limit and control carbon dioxide emissions across the globe in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions against the average carbon dioxide concentration values so high.

Depending on the type of fuel used, the amount of carbon dioxide associated with the combustion event must be high in the flue gases. Today, the use of natural gas, a low-emission fuel, is increasing. Today's technologies allow for optimal energy use. When natural gas is burned, 25 is less than the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by liquid fuels that give the same energy, and 40-50 is less than the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by coal combustion.

However, carbon dioxide, which is preferred to be high in flue gases, is accepted as residual emission due to the greenhouse effect caused by the atmosphere. As a result, the only solution is to limit the use of fossil fuels over time and to show the widespread use of fuels with low carbon content but with high hydrogen content. So natural gas is a good solution for today.

However, carbon dioxide gas, which cannot be discharged from the chimney and emitted into the environment, creates hazards to human health. If the percent 5 is inhaled after concentration, carbon dioxide leads to loss of consciousness in humans and even deaths due to lack of oxygen at high concentrations. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out carbon dioxide measurements in the houses and workplaces by authorized laboratories.

Our company carries out carbon dioxide (CO2) measurements within the scope of gas measurements. In these studies, the relevant legal regulations, standards and test methods published by domestic and foreign organizations are complied with.

Meanwhile, our organization has been accredited by Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) in accordance with TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 standard.
